This heavenly blueberry cake dessert is so light and delicious! It's the perfect end to any meal - everyone always asks for the recipe!

Sweet and tangy, it's a mess of paradise on a plate. And because it is so light and succulent, this blueberry angel cake dessert is the perfect finish to any meal (fantastic for a potluck or when you have company for dinner).

And if you think about what I think, YES, this dessert is easily, easily adaptable to other flavors. Check out the amazing ideas I detailed below!

Surprisingly simple to make, this dessert begins first with ... yes, you guessed it ... an angel cake.

Store-bought vs homemade angel food cake

For this blueberry angel cake dessert, you can use:

    the cake mix
angel food cake prepared in store
    homemade angel cake

Whatever you prefer - use it with confidence and don't look back!

I was raised in the box angel food cake (literally my mom's favorite cake), and I have absolutely no shame in admitting that I actually prefer it over homemade angel cake. As in, don't leave me alone with a baking cake mix, an angel food cake meant for something important. It will not end well.

However, I can also give a strong vote in favor of this super easy homemade angel food cake recipe. It’s quite amazing. It doesn't require cake flour + it includes a ridiculously delicious variation of chocolate.

Cut the angel food cake into cubes of about 1 inch and throw them in a bowl.

These irresistible pieces of cake are smothered in a creamy mixture of half and half (or evaporated milk), sugar and cream cheese.

It may seem a little weird and slightly scary to mix the cake cubes in the creamy coating. Do not insist on the filthy pieces which form small balls here and there. Everything will work. And the cake will hold very well as long as you mix it gently and as aggressively as possible.

Dish trifle or not?

Years ago, when I told you about this recipe for the first time, I wanted to beautifully spread the creamy angel cake cubes with blueberries and cream in a trendy dish. And I always do that. Sometimes.

But in general, I opt for a simple 9X13 inch pan. Not only is it a little more practical, but it also makes the layers thinner, which greatly facilitates the serving of the dessert. You can use a small dish for a super pretty presentation, a 9X13 inch (or slightly smaller) pan or simply a glass bowl.

This dessert is a mess of delicious wonders once served, so don't worry too much about the presentation.

Assembly is simple! Half of the coated angel cake cubes, half of the blueberry filling, half of the whipped cream ... and ... REPEAT!

I like to refrigerate the dessert a few hours before serving. Bonus: it can easily be prepared the day before and keeps well in the refrigerator overnight.
